the villa

Armfuls of white scented flowers, soaring palm trees and lawns scattered with frangipani trees all welcome you to this tranquil haven. Smiling staff instantly make you feel at home as they ply you with refreshing drinks and cold towels. At Kemah Tinggi you will find the simplest pleasures become an enchanting experience. This is an incredibly special and utterly cocooning bolthole.

The four bedrooms are paired in two separate pavilions and are of equal importance. They are spacious, airy and light, and above all extremely comfortable. The decor is soothingly understated with Balinese accents. The huge white canopied beds are ideal for luxurious lie-ins whilst floor-to-ceiling windows open onto shady fan-cooled terraces with daybeds and armchairs piled with cushions.

The bathrooms are gorgeous and embrace the indoor/outdoor concept which makes the most of tropical living. Three have private walled gardens for showering under the open sky, whilst the fourth has a shower deck on a secluded roof terrace. Luxuriate in the details - the Ploh pillows, Molton Brown amenities, oversized bathtubs and bath sheets, and the abundant fresh flowers & glowing candles.

This is a villa with a resort lifestyle where everyone gets to relax. Enjoy the sense of space and open skies and the murmur of the waves in the distance. Savour a blissful massage under a palm tree or swim laps in the beautiful freshwater pool whilst your partner reads on one of its sunny ledges, cool drink in hand. Your kids will love the swathes of lush lawns where they can play with our bamboo football goals or enjoy more traditional games like boules and Swingball.

As the staff set the table for another exquisite meal, luxuriate in the peace and exclusivity of this beautiful home from home. Savour a sundowner from the huge sofas in the spectacular fan-cooled living pavilion or catch up with a favourite movie in the air-conditioned TV room. Add to this an elegant dining table which comfortably seats 10; more than enough sun loungers for everyone, and an attentive staff of 13 who will clean, shop, cook, launder and chauffeur for you, and this becomes the perfect tropical hideaway. Then there's the delicious and fragrant food prepared by the villa's three talented chefs at any time of day, as well as the convenience of an in-house bar list.

Indeed, we think it's the staff you'll love the most. Attentive to your every need, quietly efficient, always there but never intrusive - it's a difficult balance to perfect, yet one they do brilliantly. Their genuine enthusiasm and warmth is charming and unpretentious. Here is the real Bali, and in getting to know this lovely group of people you will be privileged to gain insights into local traditions and culture which would be impossible in the anonymity of a hotel.

Awake early and you will see one of the house girls making her way to the house shrine, sash tied round her waist and a tray of delicate offerings in her hand. At night, the tinkling music of a gamelan might float across the pool as you enjoy a performance in the garden by the village orchestra. If you're lucky you might even witness the duties performed at a full moon ceremony at the temple in Seseh. Magical, very special and, of course completely unforgettable.

Wayan, the villa manager, is always on hand and will act as your personal concierge and chauffeur to help you with everything from restaurants and excursions to how you like your eggs. The rest of the team will do their utmost to pamper you too. Rooms are serviced twice daily and turned down each evening; refreshing drinks are brought to you by the pool; children are kept entertained and supervised; menus are shopped for, laundry done and meals waited upon. Two people are even on duty overnight to provide a discreet but comforting presence - and perhaps one more cocktail. Then there's the complementary chauffeured car always at your disposal should you muster the energy to explore everything else Bali has to offer.

Such meticulous attention to detail is easy to get used to - and very spoiling. Enjoy. Nothing at Kemah Tinggi is too much trouble.
